EUREPGAP Acquires Plant Propagation Material Standard
in Fruit and Vegetables, Flower and Ornamentals
The UK based Plant Propagators Ltd (PPL) transferred the ownership and management of its Assured Plant Propagation Scheme to EUREPGAP. From June 2007 onwards, EUREPGAP now operates the standard and will adapt it to the EUREPGAP system.

Neil Hutchison, Company Secretary of PPL, said "We are delighted that we found a bigger home for our industry scheme, which has been operating successfully in the UK. EUREPGAP has the capability and management capacity to implement this system globally and link this in with their existing farm certification standards. We will continue to provide our expertise in the implementation programme. All of this will contribute to the harmonisation of schemes and benefit not only the plant propagation sector."

The new standard, to be published as the EUREPGAP Plant Propagation Material Standard V2.0, will become available for certification of plant propagation material in the second half of 2007  and replace the existing standard V1.0. Implementation and certification of the new standard will be voluntary until the next revision in 2010.

"The choice for EUREPGAP to manage the plant propagation standard is a proof of our high level of global proficiency and integrity," said Dr. Kristian Moeller, Secretary of EUREPGAP. „With the support of a number of national plant propagator associations in Europe we are confident to receive the necessary producer support to be able to present an excellent extension of the supply chain beyond farms to establish a harmonised concept for safe and sustainable agriculture."

Like all EUREPGAP standards, the new EUREPGAP Plant Propagation Material Standard V2.0 will be freely available for download from the www.eurepgap.org website.
